Rozie's House

On Monday you sat on your porch doing a crossword
Summer fading into Fall outside the windows
On Tuesday you went to bed
You never got up again
The cancer suddenly ravaging
You struggled
You didn’t want to leave
On Saturday you died
In your bed
In your room
In your cherished home
Yet in the days after you left
You lingered
In the reflections of sunlight
The reflections of a life
The empty chair in the garden
The soft curtain in the window
The fancy blue evening dress
Hung on a door
Never to be worn
A life rich in aesthetic
In every domestic detail
The house was eventually deconstructed
Treasures dispersed
Precious fragments preserved in these photographs
Including the moment you were immortalized by the Google camera car
How you would have loved this image!
You sitting on your porch
In your pink sweatshirt
Doing a crossword
Not knowing that the everyday moment
Was captured forever
You
In your beloved house
